South African shoppers have lots to be excited about and tons to look forward to with the arrival of British fast-fashion chain Top Shop. As reported in Business Day on 31 July 2012, the roll out of Top Shop will begin with the first stand-alone flagship store to be opened in Sandton City by the end of November this year, followed by a second store in Durban before the end of the year. Edgars will also stock Topshop & Top Man products in the new year, the report said.
As exciting as this may sound for me and you, this is going to bring some pressure on the local retailers to begin to adopt the internationally successful fast-fashion model of clothing retail.
After the arrival of Zara on our shores and now Top Shop, word on the street is the next international brand to join us might be H&M.
I can’t say I’m not excited but this might bring the much needed pressure to our retail stores to up their game and expand the fashion retail landscape in South Africa.
