Clash Of The Prints

Pushing fashion to the limit is not for everyone, but if you eagerly embrace bright colors, big florals and bold graphics, these are guaranteed attention getters. Inspired by a passion for retro, the energy of the art world and advances in digital printing, this summers patterns let you celebrate your individuality.

What’s more exciting about this trend is that designers are finding inspiration from our very own Africa! Tribal prints are what’s hot right now!. Leggings, dresses and accessories are the ways you are going to get yourself noticed with this trend.

Stripes, florals, ornate geometrics, mind-bending swirls and spots – the catwalks were also brimming with prints of every size and shape for spring/summer 2012.prints are a sure-fire way to ignite style envy this season, don’t be scared to mismatch your patterns – just look to D&G, Peter Pilotto and Mary Katrantzou for inspiration – or keep things clean with a uniform print from head-to-toe, like Diane von Furstenberg, Anna Sui and Erdem.

My all time style crush Solange Knowles, knows a thing or two about individualizing her look. The quirky print queen hardly ever steps out without a vibrant graphic splattered throughout  one of her comfy separates—most often she’s spotted in multiple patterns that unexpectedly work well together. Solange isn’t just the Queen Of Print. She is the Queen Of Print On Print on Print On Another Print. My advice to you, take a lesson form her. I know it may look a little too much…but you can find a way to make it your own.

Keep in mind that startling visuals are most flattering on a silhouette with a relaxed—not tight fit. Separate and  contrast best with black, and accessories must take a back seat. Red lips are welcome, but nude is nice too.

Get yourself a copy of the November issue of ELLE Mag SA and see Solange rocking prints proper!!
