Stars from the big and small screen as well as from the music world came out in their best threads on Sunday night for the 2013 Golden Globes Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Not all starlets were dressed in colourful hues, as black was the go-to colour for the evening. Some of the standouts included Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen; Rosie Huntington-Whitley in Saint Laurent; Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka; Katherine McPhee in Theyskens Theory; Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen; Julianne Moore in Tom Ford; Tina Fey in L’Wren Scott; Stacy Kiebler in Armani Prive; Sofia Vergara in new designer Michael Cinco; and Rachel Weisz in Louis Vuitton.
On the other end of the non-colour spectrum, stars like Amanda Seyfried in Givency; Anne Hathaway in Chanel; Megan Fox in Dolce & Gabbana; Hayden Panetierre in Roberto Cavalli; Isla Fisher in Reema Acra; Amy Adams in Marchesa; Kristen Bell in Jenny Packham; and Kerry Washington in Miu Miu donned shades of white, blush and nude for the occasion.
Some daring ladies rocked colour for the red carpet, like Jessica Chastain in a light blue Calvin Klein dress; Taylor Swift in a deep purple Donna Karan Atelier; Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta; Sienna Miller in custom Erdem; Halle Berry in a watercolor Versace gown; and Lucy Liu in a light blue floral number by Carolina Herrera.
The major trend of the night seemed to be cutouts, like Kristen Wiig’s Michael Kors dress and Kate Hudson’s Alexander McQueen dress as well as sheer panels like Jennifer Lopez’s floral Zuhair Murad, Kerry Washington’s Miu Miu and Rachel Weisz in Louis Vuitton.
Christian Dior poster girl Marion Cotillard lost out to Jessica Chastain for best actress for her role in Rust and Bone, but she did manage to flout the rules of colour clashing by wearing orange on a red carpet and come out smiling. That however dose not take away from the fact that her dress was inappropriate. The after party comes only after the actual event Marion!
Emily Blunt channels J-Lo during the Puff Daddy years, except she’s wearing Michael Kors instead of oh-no-she-didn’t Versace
No matter what their age, and even when hosting the 70th annual Golden Globes together, women still call each other the night before to discuss what to wear.
Tina Fey: ‘I’m thinking that strapless L’Wren Scott thingy that cost, like, a bunch a money but which I never wear.’
Amy Poehler: ‘Oh my God, yes! You totally should, your boobs look awesome in that. I think I’m gonna make like Diane Keaton and go for tailoring. I’m thinking the Stella McCartney suit.’
Tina Fey: ‘Yes. Do it. If anyone can pull it off it’s you’
Zooey Deschanel branches out from her usual ‘Daria goes to prom’ look and opts for a bright red Oscar de la Renta dress so breathtakingly girly you suspect her stylist is an eight-year-old called Tiffany
Zosia Mamet, Lena Dunham and Allison Williams looking all kinds of sophisticated. Do you think Lena Dunham and Taylor Swift did that tacit red carpet thing, and steered clear of each other and their matching plum gowns?
By the way, the specific shade of Django Unchained star Kerry Washington‘s sheer Miu Miu dress is champagne. What a girl
Yes, she’s wearing a Versace gown that can best be described as ‘confused’. Yes, she’s doing the whole Angelina leg thing. But you know why Halle Berry is smiling? Because in 1985 she made a bet with herself that she would wear something like this if she was still smoking hot aged 46, and guess what? She won.
Exactly. That’s how you do it, Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton
Helen Mirren. Making us feel bad about that cheese and ham toasties we had for breakfast since forever. The dress is by Badgley Mischka. Sensational waist, model’s own
Sienna Miller opted for British designer Erdem at the Globes. It has so far been slandered as ‘boxy’ and ‘bland’, which is no mean feat for a floorlength gown adorned with pastel flowers
Who knows what’s happening in this picture. Perhaps it’s something like this. Taylor Swift: ‘OMG, Elizabeth Taylor! You’re alive?’ ‘Yes, darling I had to see this for myself. A Donna Karen plum gown in 2013? Is this what happens when I turn my back?’
